Today marked my third reading of the historical novel Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy, and it was just as overwhelming as my first reading. The pages were marked with previous penciled notes in the margins and underlinings. McCarthy’s vocabulary is amazing and many words kept my hands busy going from text to dictionary to the reader’s guide pictured below. It was my writer friend Billy Dunn who first introduced me to McCarthy by loaning me one of McCarthy’s novels. Since then, I’ve joined the Cormac McCarthy Society and read every novel of his twice. This novel is likely my favorite, as I love reading about America’s West. I would like very much to create an online course focused on McCarthy and his novels.
